The first avarca sandal originated in Menorca, a small island in the Spanish Mediterranean, and were made from recycled tires to keep the feet of farmers and villagers cool. Since 1945 Avarcas Pons has specialized in artisan Menorcan sandals for three generations. I bought myself a pair of these years ago when I visited Spain and I can’t even begin to explain how happy I am that they are available stateside now.
